Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s relationship with Ken Urker went through several chapters, from a prison pen-pal romance to an engagement, years apart, a reunion and eventually parenthood.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, in December 2024 after reconnecting earlier that year. But their story took a devastating turn in October 2026 when Urker died at the age of 34.
Urker was found unresponsive at a Louisiana home on Oct. 1, which was also his birthday. A source close to the family confirmed his death to PEOPLE. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a residence in Raceland that evening, where Urker was pronounced dead. An investigation into his death remains ongoing.
Gypsy Rose later spoke publicly about the loss, saying she believed Urker had overdosed but that she did not know what substance he may have taken or whether the overdose was intentional. She also said he had recently been struggling.
How Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker First Met
Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker’s relationship began while she was incarcerated for her role in the 2015 killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.
The two connected through a prison pen-pal program. Their relationship developed while Gypsy Rose was serving her sentence, and Urker eventually traveled to meet her.
They became engaged in 2018, but the relationship did not remain together continuously. The pair called off their engagement and separated before eventually going their separate ways for several years.
Even after their first breakup, Urker remained an important part of Gypsy Rose’s personal history.
Their story would eventually take another turn after she was released from prison.
Gypsy Rose Was Released From Prison in 2023
Gypsy Rose was released on parole on Dec. 28, 2023, after serving about eight years of a 10-year sentence for second-degree murder.
Her case had received enormous public attention because of the abuse she said she experienced at the hands of her mother.
Dee Dee Blanchard had portrayed Gypsy as suffering from numerous illnesses and subjected her to medical treatment and procedures. Investigators later uncovered that many of the claims about Gypsy’s health were false.
In 2015, Gypsy and Nicholas Godejohn plotted to kill Dee Dee. Godejohn ultimately stabbed Dee Dee to death inside her Missouri home.
Gypsy later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 10-year sentence. Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
After her release, Gypsy said she regretted her involvement in her mother’s killing and wanted to use her experiences to encourage people in abusive situations to seek help rather than resort to violence.
Gypsy Rose and Ryan Anderson’s Marriage
Before reuniting with Urker, Gypsy Rose married Ryan Anderson while she was still incarcerated.
The pair married in June 2022. Anderson, a Louisiana teacher, was waiting for Gypsy when she was released from prison in December 2023.
However, the marriage did not last.
In March 2024, Gypsy announced that she had separated from Anderson and was staying with her father and stepmother. She filed for divorce the following month.
Her separation became an important turning point in her personal life, because it was around this period that she reconnected with Urker.
Gypsy Rose and Ken Reconnected in 2024
Gypsy Rose and Urker rekindled their relationship in April 2024.
Their reunion came only months after Gypsy’s release from prison and shortly after the end of her marriage to Anderson.
Gypsy later described the renewed relationship as a chance for the two to see whether the feelings they had shared years earlier were still there.
Urker traveled to see her, and the pair began spending time together again. Their relationship quickly became serious.
By July 2024, Gypsy announced that she and Urker were expecting a baby.
The pregnancy represented a major change for Gypsy, who was still adjusting to life outside prison and dealing with the intense public attention that followed her release.
They Welcomed Daughter Aurora
Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker became parents to their daughter, Aurora Raina Urker, in December 2024.
The arrival of Aurora became a major milestone for the couple.
For Gypsy, motherhood represented a completely different chapter from the circumstances that had defined much of her early life and incarceration.
Urker also embraced fatherhood. In later interviews, Gypsy spoke warmly about watching him grow into the role.
She described him as a devoted father and said she was surprised by how patient he could be with their daughter.
Their family life was also complicated by the circumstances surrounding Gypsy’s parole and the practical restrictions that followed her release.
Their Relationship Was Not Always Simple
Although Gypsy Rose and Urker had reunited and become parents, their relationship had never been a completely straightforward one.
They had first met while she was incarcerated, became engaged, separated and then spent years apart.
During that period, Gypsy married someone else before that relationship ended.
Their 2024 reunion therefore represented more than simply getting back together. It was a second attempt at a relationship that had already gone through major changes.
By the time they became parents, however, both had publicly spoken about their commitment to their daughter.
Their relationship also faced considerable public scrutiny because Gypsy’s life had already attracted enormous attention.
Ken Urker’s Life Away From Gypsy Rose
Urker was not nearly as publicly known as Gypsy Rose.
Information about his professional life remained relatively limited, although reports had previously described him as working as a bartender.
Much of the public’s knowledge about him came through his relationship with Gypsy and his role as Aurora’s father.
Urker also became a regular subject of online discussion as the couple’s relationship developed.
Gypsy later said that he faced significant public scrutiny and online harassment during their relationship.
After his death, she specifically addressed that issue and asked people to remember Urker as a person rather than simply as a figure connected to her highly publicized story.
Ken Urker Died on His 34th Birthday
Urker died on Oct. 1, 2026, his 34th birthday.
According to PEOPLE’s reporting, Gypsy had sent him a birthday message but did not receive a response. Her brother Dylan and his wife later went to the Louisiana residence for a planned dinner and found Urker unresponsive.
His death was subsequently confirmed by a family source and his sister, Autumn, who also spoke about him publicly.
The circumstances remain under investigation.
Gypsy told PEOPLE that she believed he had overdosed, but she emphasized that she did not know what substance he had taken or whether the overdose was intentional. The sheriff’s office has not announced a final cause or manner of death.
Gypsy Rose Remembered Ken as Aurora’s Father
Following Urker’s death, Gypsy spoke about him not only as her partner but as the father of their daughter.
She described him as an amazing father and said he loved Aurora deeply.
She also said she wants Aurora to grow up knowing who her father was beyond the public commentary surrounding their relationship.
That concern is understandable given how much attention has followed Gypsy’s life since her mother’s murder and her subsequent release from prison.
Urker’s relationship with Gypsy meant that he also became part of that public story, even though he was not the person at the center of it.
Now, their daughter will remain the lasting connection between them.
Gypsy Rose’s Life After Prison
Since her release, Gypsy Rose has worked to create a life beyond the criminal case that made her famous.
She has appeared in documentaries and reality television, including Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up. She has also written about her experiences in books and spoken publicly about abuse, incarceration and rebuilding her life.
Her memoir My Time to Stand explored her childhood, prison experience and hopes for the future.
She has also used social media to communicate directly with followers, although her relationship with online platforms has changed over time.
The birth of Aurora became another major part of her post-prison life.
What Happened to Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker?
Gypsy Rose and Ken Urker’s relationship ultimately became a story of reconciliation, parenthood and loss.
They met when Gypsy was incarcerated, became engaged, separated, spent years apart and reunited in 2024. Their reunion led to the birth of their daughter, Aurora, later that year.
For a period, they were building a family together while navigating the unusual pressures that came with Gypsy’s public life and parole.
That future changed with Urker’s death on Oct. 1, 2026.
As the investigation into his death continues, Gypsy is now facing life as a mother grieving the father of her child.
For Aurora, the most important part of Urker’s story may ultimately be much simpler. He was her father, and Gypsy has said she intends to make sure their daughter knows how deeply he loved her.
The couple’s complicated public story has now entered a painful new chapter, but their daughter remains a lasting connection between them.
